OFFICIAL 2005 SPECIFICATIONS FOR FACTORY STOCKS

ATTENTION ALL DRIVERS: Our goal is to complete our racing programs by 10:30 p.m. The pit booth will be open from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and the following will be enforced ... Any driver not in his assigned starting spot when the cars roll onto the track for any event, will start at the rear of the pack. Once the initial green flag has been thrown, you may not join the field unless there is a complete restart. All races will use a rolling start. Sponsors will be read over the P.A. system during the course of the evening. Main events will be limited to 30 minutes (Count down clock will be stopped on red flags).

1. The word FACTORY STOCK applies to all components of the car: Engine, chassis, suspension, body and all parts - everything! Stock Car means no altering, modifying or substituting any component. If you make any changes the car is illegal, unless the changes are specifically stated in these rules.

1. Two or four door sedans, pick-ups, or station wagons all O.K. No four wheel drive. Full cage required for convertibles. Minimum wheel base 105 inches. Minimum weight, with driver, anytime, 3,500 lbs.

ENGINES

1. Engines must be stock. No alterations.

2. NO BIG BLOCKS! Maximum engine displacement: GM - 350c.i. - Chrysler - 360c.i. - Ford - 351c.i. - Maximum allowable overbore for cleanup - .030.

3. Cranking compression, hot off the track, 180 anytime.

4. Cars will be subject to a vacuum test of 17" of manifold pressure for three (3) minutes at 800 RPM for the purpose of teching for stock cam. All Factory Stocks must provide an easy access vacuum port on the intake manifold for the purpose of teching vacuum for stock cam.

RADIATORS

1. Aluminum or stock okay.

2. Some reinforcement on radiator bracing okay. Installation subject to official's approval.

BODIES

1. Both front inner door panels may be cut out for door bars. No other inner panels may be cut out. Grill may be replaced with wire screen. Wheel wells may be removed. Removal of all upholstery, exterior trim and all plastic material is mandatory.

2. Hoods and trunk lids may be skinned.

DOORS

1. All doors shall be welded shut, with minimum 3" weld every 18" on all four edges of door. No external reinforcing bars.

BUMPERS

1. Bumpers must be welded to frame horns and to frame. Front hoop with a maximum of two vertical bars on each side of engine compartment, welded to frame, allowed. Bumper straps required front & rear. No exceptions. Minimum size 4˛X10˛X1/8˛.

2. Provide connection front and rear to facilitate wrecker hook up.

3. Warning: Cars losing front bumpers will be black flagged for remainder of race.

4. Camaro bumpers - Rubber noses allowed (2" maximum square tubing support).

ROLL BARS

1. Four-Point Roll Bar Required: Four-point "cage type" roll bars shall be of 1 3/4" O.D. tubing. Base of upright members shall be solidly electric welded to frame rails of car. In unibody cars, roll bar uprights shall be welded to a piece of plate steel at least 12" by 12", of 3/16" minimum thickness, formed and bolted to inside of car floor pan. Rear upright bars must also be connected by a side-to-side member just above floor pan of car on unibody models. Cage shall be braced to rear frame kickups, and diagonally side-to-side between rear hoop uprights. At least two side bars shall be installed horizontally between front and rear cage uprights on driveršs side, overlapping outside of upright bars. These may be connected vertically as well. Inside door panel may be removed to accommodate side bars. A center overhead bar is required, running fore and aft between transverse members connecting uprights. Gussets, 1/4" thick, must be used at joints of all principal members.

STEERING WHEEL

1. Quick release steering wheel okay.

WHEELS

1. Steel wheels not to exceed 7". White spoke or chrome wheels O.K., not to exceed 7" wide. Right front must be reinforced, except spoke. No wheel weights. Oversize studs okay.

TIRES

1. 7" maximum tread width, DOT casing. No aggresive tread patterns. All tires subject to approval. No racing tires. No Grooving of any kind.

2. Tire pressures must be a minimum of 20 lbs. cold.

TRANSMISSIONS

1. Stock automatic transmissions only. Torc converter must be fully operational. Adjustable vacuum modulators allowed. No manual transmissions.

REAR ENDS

1. Must be stock. (Make-to-make). No floaters or quick changes.

2. Locked up rear ends O.K. May be locked up by welding spiders or using a mini spool.

3. Gear ratio optional.

4. Stock or Tom's replacement axles okay.

5. Drive line must have safety straps at front and rear of drive shaft made of metal straps of 3/16" by 1" minimum size. All drive lines must be painted white.

ELECTRICAL

1. Any 12 volt battery permitted (one only). Battery MAY be moved to inside of vehicle, but must be enclosed in an approved metal box, and securely fastened to floor.

2. Kill switch must be labeled and visible and easily reached by driver.

GAS TANK

1.Approved fuel cell mandatory. Must be enclosed in minimum 18 gauge metal box and secured in trunk.

FIRE WALLS

1. Rear Firewall: A metal rear firewall, of minimum .031 (1/32") thickness steel or 1/8" aluminum, must be securely installed over the rear seat back brace and top shelf, completely closing off trunk compartment. Cut and fit carefully! No sloppy, loose installations will be approved!

2, Front Firewall: All holes in engine firewall must be covered with same spec. metal as rear firewall, securely fastened (metal screws or pop rivets should be used for installation of firewalls).

3. Firewall must be in stock location.

SEATS

1. Racing seats mandatory.

GLASS

1. Removal of all glass mandatory. Approved protective screen must be installed across windshield opening.

SAFETY BELTS

1. Nylon aircraft type safety belts, three (3) inches wide are required and must be securely mounted to frame or roll bar, subject to approval of tech. inspector. Nylon shoulder harnesses are required. Cotton belts and harnesses are prohibited (Five point system required). All belts must be dated, and no more than five years old.

2. Shoulder harness must not be mounted lower than 2" below top of driver's shoulders.

FIRE SUITS

1. Fire suits and gloves (i.e. Nomex or equivalent) are mandatory .

HELMETS

1. Approved racing helmets with face shield or goggles mandatory. Closed or Open faced. Snell 2000.

WINDOW NETS

1. Window nets: Standard size (16X22") window net required.

No safety...no race!

IDENTIFICATION

1. Officially assigned numbers at least 18" high and 4" in width (10% Tolerance) must be neatly lettered on both sides of car, and on roof.

2. A 5" high and 1" wide number must be lettered on the top of the driver's side fender.

3. A 5" high and 1" wide number must be lettered on the driver's side of the rear of the car, between the bumper and the rear deck lid, approximately where the tail light would be located.

4. Numbers must be clearly readable to scorers. Gold or silver not advisable unless outlined in a contrasting color.

5. Numbers may not be written out, numerals only.

TEARDOWNS

ANY DRIVER REFUSING TO ALLOW POST RACE INSPECTION OR TEARDOWN WILL LOSE ALL
POINTS FOR THE NIGHT AND ALL PREVIOUS RACE NIGHTS.

PROTESTS

1. A protest in writing, by any owner or driver, on an approved Santa Maria Speedway protest form, along with $200.00 cash, may be filed with the Chief Steward within fifteen (15) minutes following the finish of the event.  Protests will be settled by the "Protest Committee". If the protest is upheld, the $200.00 fee will be refunded. If the protest is denied, the $200.00 will go to the SMS Driver's Benevolent Fund. In the event an engine tear-down is required, the only persons allowed at the tear-down will be the SMS Tech Inspectors and the car owner. Frivolous protests will be denied.

a. No protest will be accepted that is directed at a decision of an official, including but not limited to timing and scoring decisions, inspections and race procedure decisions.

b. Discussion as to official rulings, race procedures, etc. will be conducted with the driver only.

MISCELLANEOUS

1. No radios or scanners in cars or in pits. No mirrors.

STARTING POSITIONS

FIRST NIGHT - Drivers are awarded starting positions in heats, by draw.

SUCCEEDING NIGHTS - Drivers are awarded starting positions in heat races based on their point standings.

All mains will be run totally, or partially, inverted.

First place in points starts outside the last row in first heat. Second highest outside the last row in second heat. Third highest inside the last row in first heat, etc. If more than two heats are necessary the progression will be carried further.

New drivers start last in heats.

Ties in points determined by first driver to reach that point total. If two drivers reach the same total on the same night, the driver finishing higher in the main event will be given the position.

LICENSING

1. Fees: Drivers - $23.00; Mechanics - $23.00; Owners - $23.00; Car Number - $23.00.
