ATTENTION ALL DRIVERS: Our goal is to complete our racing programs by
10:30 p.m. The pit booth will be open from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and the
following will be enforced ... Any driver not in his assigned starting spot
when the cars roll onto the track for any event, will start at the rear of
the pack. Once the initial green flag has been thrown, you may not join the
field unless there is a complete restart. All races will use a rolling
start. Sponsors will be read over the P.A. system during the course of the
evening. Main events will be limited to 30 minutes (Count down clock will be
stopped on red flags).
CAR
ELIGIBILITY
Body Type: American made cars with steel body. Aftermarket aluminum hoods
OK. No Convertibles, station wagons or 2-passenger sports car models.
Wheelbase: Minimum
wheelbase 105” per manufactures specifications.
Pick up trucks: Okay, but
must conform to all Street Stock mechanical rules. And, specifically, ½ ton
maximum; 6’ bed maximum; tail gate required; metal tonneau over bed
required; and fuel tank must be filled from inside bed.
ENGINES AND ACCESSORIES
Sealed Engines: Sealed
engines are available and maybe used for the 2005 season. Contact SM
Speedway for more information.
Engine Interchange: No
engine interchange between makes. Ford engine in Ford, Chevy in Chevy, Dodge
in Dodge, etc….
Engine Location: Engine
may be aligned with number one spark plug centered on ball joint.
Engines: 365 cubic inch
maximum size - minimum weight 3,000 lbs. with driver any time. No dry sumps.
Cast iron blocks only. No titanium parts.
Cylinder Heads: Any cast
iron cylinder heads.23 degree valve angle +or- 1 degree. No porting or
polishing of intake or exhaust runners. Ported heads may be run at 3125 lbs.
Cams &
Rockers: No roller cams. Roller rockers allowed.
Intake: Any cast intake
manifold UNTOUCHED
Carburetion: 4412 Holley 500 CFM with 1 11/16 throttle bore and 1 3/8 main
venturi. No alterations allowed, except choke tower may be removed. One-inch
spacer allowed between carburetor and manifold.
Closed-Throttle Spring: 2
Throttle springs mandatory.
Air Cleaner: A metal air
cleaner top must be used on all carburetors to act as flame arrestor.
Headers: Header okay. No
180-degree headers or crossovers. 95 decibels at 100 ft.
Distributors & Coils: No
magnetos
Starter: Operative
starter in stock location.
Radiator Overflow Tank:
ALL CARS must be equipped with a radiator overflow catch tank.
Kill Switches: must be
labeled and visible and easily reached by driver.
Oil Pan: Must have 1-inch
inspection hole for rod and crank inspection. Be prepared to drop pan if
hole is not available.
TRANSMISSION, DRIVE TRAIN
Transmission: Manual or
automatic permitted, but only stock production type. No special engine-transmission adaptor plates
permitted. Automatic transmissions may use a coupler instead of a torque
converter.
Drive
Shafts: Aluminum drive shaft optional.
Drive Shaft Sling:
Drivelines must have safety straps at front and rear of drive shaft made of
metal straps. All drive shafts must be painted white.
Rear Ends: 9” Ford rear
ends allowed. Spools Only. No exotic devices I.e. Detroit lockers- Gold
Track, etc. No quick change. Floaters allowed.
Bell
Housings & Steel Scatershields: Steel Bell housing required over clutch
assembly. ¼” thick steel plate or trans blanket required over
automatic transmission case.
Clutches: Any clutch
allowed.
CHASSIS
AND SUSPENSION
Frames: must be stock for
make and model. Sub frame connectors recommended. Must be fully welded in.
Weight jacks allowed. Leaf spring sliders allowed. Racing springs and shocks
allowed. No canister shocks. No coil over shocks or coil over eliminators.
All cars must have original type suspension: Leaf springs on Camaros,
Firebirds, etc.; coils on Monte Carlos, Oldsmobiles, etc.
Front Control arms:
Control arm that supports coil spring must be stock.
Heim ends: ok on front
suspension in stock location. No aluminum heim joints.
Brakes: OEM brake
calipers only front and rear.
Coil cars: must use
factory lower control arms, in factory position, in rear. Upper control
arms, heim ends, allowed. Must be in factory position.
Leaf spring: cars may use
adjustable lowering blocks. No composite or fiberglass leaf springs.
WHEELS
15x8 steel wheels only.
No mag, slotted, wire or other accessory type wheels allowed.
Over size studs recommended. Bead locks O.K.
TIRES
The following Hoosier
tires have been mandated for use at SMS:P245/60D-15, P255/60D-15,
P265/60D-15. All have 8” tread width. Soft or medium compound on front.
Medium or hard on rear. Any defacing of specs on sidewall will make tire
illegal. No grooving or siping of any kind. Medium or hard only Starting
with July 16th race.
California Street Stock championship allows any compound, or any combination
of the 3, on all four corners.
BODY
General Appearance: Body
must be straight and sound in stock position on frame. Must be neat
appearing, no junkers, no brushed on or spray canned lettering (subject to
promoters discretion). Bodies must be stock appearing for make and model.
Must have complete body. Rear may be open. Original or after market steel
bodies allowed. # plate with minimum 4 inch numbers mandatory on rear. No
Outlaw, Wedge, or Dirt late Model bodies allowed. Newer bodies allowed on
older chassis. Rear spoiler allowed, no wider that deck lid and no more than
6 inches high. No lowering, chopping, enlarging of windows, etc. Bodies
subject to approval of officials. Aluminum hoods ok.
Hood & Trunk lid: Full
hood and trunk lid. No cooling or filling holes of any kind may be cut in
hood or trunk lid. Hood and trunk lid must be secured with minimum of 4 pins
each.
Warning: no car will be
allowed to run without hood in place.
Floor pans: Complete
steel floor pan - Coffin box O.K. over floor pan but driver must be completely
sealed from race track, engine compartment and fuel cell area.
BUMPERS
Type: Front and rear
bumpers required at all times. Bumper straps required in front and rear.
Warning: Cars losing
front or rear bumper will be black flagged for remainder of that race.
Provide connection (hook, loop or loop of chain) front and rear to
facilitate wrecker hook up.
IDENTIFICATION
Officially signed numbers
at least 18” high and 4” in width (10% tolerance) must be neatly lettered on
both sides of car and on roof. A 4” high and 1” wide number must be
lettered on the front nosepiece or sun visor. Numbers must be clearly
readable to scorers. Gold or silver not advisable unless outlined in a
contrasting color. Numbers may not be written out, numerals only.
# plate with minimum 4 inch numbers required on rear.
SAFETY
Any car regarded by
officials to be unsafe for competition in any respect will be refused entry
until brought up to these specifications.
Glass:
Removal of all glass mandatory. Approved protective screen must be installed
across windshield opening. Bars recommended.
Seats: Aluminum racing
seat mandatory. Seat and seat belt mounting will be strictly inspected.
Safety Belts/Shoulder
Harnesses: Racing seat belts only. All belts must be dated, and no more that
two years old. Under no circumstances can belts be secured by bolting to
floor or to stock belt mounts. Seat belts should be mounted to roll cage per
manufactures specifications. Belt and harness installation will be STRICTLY
inspected!
Fire Safety Equipment:
Fire suits, fire resistant gloves, fire resistant underwear and shoes are
mandatory.
Helmets:
Approved racing helmets with face shield. Snell 2000.
Window nets: standard
size (16 x 22) window net required.
Gloves: Racing gloves
required (I.e. Nomex or equivalent).
Steering: Center of
steering wheel must be padded.
No safety…No race!!!
ROLL
BARS
Full roll cage with 1 ¾
main hoop and minimum of 3 door bars required. Must have diagonal bar behind
driver for main hoop. Roll cage should be X’d anywhere possible for strength
and safety. Roll cage subject to approval by SMS officials.
FIREWALLS
Rear Firewall: Must
completely seal fuel cell area from drivers compartment.
Front Firewall: Must
completely seal engine bay from drivers compartment.
front firewall must extend entire width of car.
FUEL
CELL, GAS LINES, FUEL PUMP, FUEL
Fuel Cell: Approved fuel
cells mandatory. Completely enclosed in minimum 18 gauge metal box. Cell
must fill from inside trunk.
Installation:
INSTALLATION OF FUEL CELLS WILL BE STRICTLY INSPECTED!
Fuel Lines: Use of stock
fuel lines O.K. Must be fastened securely to frame of car with stock clips
or additional hold-downs. Where fuel line is adapted to new cell, lines
shall not be allowed to hang down under car. Line should be cut to length
needed, and kept tight against underbody of frame. Neoprene fuel lines may
be used in adapting lines to fuel cell. All gas lines and connections must
be absolutely leak-tight. Fuel line will be strictly inspected.
Fuel pumps: Must be
located on engine. No electrical fuel pumps.
Fuel: Gas only. No
alcohol.
Fire safety: A fire
extinguisher must be located in each car’s pit area. Dry chem. system
recommended in car.
TEARDOWNS
ANY DRIVER REFUSING TO ALLOW POST RACE INSPECTION OR TEARDOWN WILL LOSE ALL
POINTS FOR THE NIGHT AND ALL PREVIOUS RACE NIGHTS.
PROTESTS
1. A protest in writing, by any owner or driver, on an approved Santa Maria
Speedway protest form, along with $200.00 cash, may be filed with the Chief
Steward within fifteen (15) minutes following the finish of the event.
Protests will be settled by the "Protest Committee". If the protest is
upheld, the $200.00 fee will be refunded. If the protest is denied, the
$200.00 will go to the SMS Driver's Benevolent Fund. In the event an engine
tear-down is required, the only persons allowed at the tear-down will be the
SMS Tech Inspectors and the car owner. Frivolous protests will be denied.
a. No protest will be accepted that is directed at a decision of an
official, including but not limited to timing and scoring decisions,
inspections and race procedure decisions.
b. Discussion as to official rulings, race procedures, etc. will be
conducted with the driver only.
MISCELLANEOUS
1. Accessories: No radios or scanners in cars or in pits. No mirrors.
STARTING POSITIONS
FIRST NIGHT - Drivers are awarded starting positions in heats, by
draw.
SUCCEEDING NIGHTS - Drivers are awarded starting positions in heat
races based on their point standings.
All mains will be run totally, or partially, inverted. First place in points
starts outside the last row in first heat. Second highest outside the last
row in second heat. Third highest inside the last row in first heat, etc. If
more than two heats are necessary the progression will be carried further.
New drivers start last in heats. Ties in points determined by first driver
to reach that point total. If two drivers reach the same total on the same
night, the driver finishing higher in the main event will be given the
position.

LICENSING
1. Fees: Drivers - $33.00; Mechanics - $33.00; Owners - $33.00; Car Number -
$33.00.
